Signs Your Furnace Needs Repairs

  • Timing
If you feel like your furnace is turning “on” and “off” frequently, and your home is without consistent heat, that’s a good sign that you have a bad thermostat setting, improper airflow, and/or a clogged filter. If your furnace is blowing cold air, that is also a sign your furnace is at serious risk of a breakdown.
  • Bad Pilot Light
Another common sign that your furnace requires repair is a pilot light that’s malfunctioning. If your pilot light is flickering or yellow, you may have excess carbon monoxide coming from your furnace.
  • Noise
Loud sounds are a solid indicator your furnace has airflow reductions, a clogged burner, or other mechanical problems. Scraping noises also can indicate a worn-out ball bearing. A high-pitched noise can mean there is a frayed or slipped blower belt. If this is the case, you should turn your furnace off, and call as soon as possible.

What are the signs that you need a new furnace?

  • Energy bill has increased
A variety of problems could be causing an increase in your energy bills. A steady increase in your heating bill over time may mean that your furnace has seen its last days. As internal parts wear out, your gas and electric bill may go up. If you notice a sharp rise in your bill, give us a call so we can help you determine your next steps to getting your energy bills down.
  • Your furnace makes noises
When you turn on your furnace, does it make any rattling or banging noises? Older furnaces make these strange noises at the end of their life. Also, does your blower turn on and off frequently? Does it blow cold air? This is another sign that your furnace needs to be replaced.
  • Different Temperatures
An older furnace can result in some rooms being colder or warmer than others. This may be the result of an older furnace losing its ability to distribute heat evenly throughout the house.
